Why you might not feel good when you lost all that weight

Even though you lost your weight, you still may not feel good. With me, I found I was eating things that had sugar and oil, which in me (and, others) causes inflammation.

It’s so easy to get tricked when you buy things from the grocery store. You think they are healthy just because they have the organic label, but the goodness gets cancelled out because it has something wrong in it.

For example, you can drink soy milk and find it is loaded with sugar and oils. You can eat taco shells and they have canola oil in each. What doesn’t have sugar in it? I even found wheat tortillas had sugar! Salad dressings are especially filled with oil and sugar.

What do you do? What can you eat that’s good? It seems everywhere you turn you are tricked into buying something you have to throw in the trash because it has harmful unhealthful ingredients.

‘Smoothies represent an excellent and convenient alternative to promote the daily consumption of fruit and vegetables in order to obtain their health-promoting benefits [1 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27352798]’.

When I discovered ingredients which seemed harmless like sugar and oil (which I learned later they were not) I made it my mandate to read contents thoroughly before I bought anything. That’s why I cook all my food from scratch because it’s the easiest way I know what’s in the food I eat.

You might be thinking you are eating healthy just because you are consuming things considered vegetarian or vegan. But, this isn’t necessarily so. Why? Chips, soft drinks and candy bars all qualify.

‘Are there harmful consequences of these features of fructose metabolism? At a high level of intake, yes, and one of these is increased cardiovascular risk [2 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3357317/]’.

How does one eat healthy? You have to eat mostly plant based whole food. This is real food, with real fiber (an essential nutrient) unlike processed and refined food which is altered from its natural state.

It seems many vegetarians and vegans aren’t healthy. Some are very thin while others are obese. I’m afraid that from what I’ve learned, one can’t expect to feel great when he keeps eating junk and snack foods (we all tend to love these and find it nearly impossible to stop eating them.)

Therefore, if you want to eat corn, eat an ear of corn, not corn tortillas. Don’t eat oat bread, eat oatmeal if you must. Eat brown rice over white. Drink a green smoothie over a glass of fruit juice or soft drink. And, as for meat, decide to get your protein from beans.

So, if you just have to eat that ice cream or candy bar, if you don’t go to the store hungry, you won’t buy these and they won’t be a temptation lurking in your cupboard or freezer.

I have found giving up refined sugar (especially HFCS or high fructose corn syrup) and substituting whole intact fruit (like organic red grapes) was a very important switch in satisfying my sweet tooth while making me healthier.
