My Quickest Food Guide: I Lost 50 Pounds, Got Healthier and will Likely Live Longer

I wanted to make a quicker more compact guide to what I eat. I lost 50 pounds and got healthier. The food below is what worked for me. So, it’s never too late and doesn’t matter how old you are.

You have to start somewhere, and right where you are is a good place to begin. I explain elsewhere why I eat and don’t eat certain foods. If I did all that here, the page would be way too long.

Here’s a list of things I eat and don’t (in a nutshell…)

  • Fried and baked potatoes
  • California brown basmati rice
  • The complex carbs from above provide long lasting energy through their resistant starch
  • Cooked kale and spinach
  • Sautéed mushrooms and onions
  • Steamed broccoli
  • Beans
  • Vegetable soups like minestrone and pea
  • Green salads with my own salad dressings
  • I eat a ‘few’ berries like strawberries and blackberries (I limit sweet fruits or simple carbs)
  • No oil
  • No refined grains (made with flour) bread, tortillas, chips, cookies, cakes and pies
  • No sugar like refined white, honey, fruit juices and molasses
  • No animal products like meat, dairy and eggs
  • Occasional avocado and seeds like sunflower and pumpkin
  • I have one green smoothie each day
  • I drink Japanese green tea
  • No coffee or alcohol
  • Drink filtered water
  • I use Himalayan pink salt, spices, hot sauce, salsa, brown mustard
  • I don’t eat out
  • I make all my own food

I eat what I feel is a nutrient dense low-calorie high fiber diet. The fat and protein are also very low. Eating this way has kept people all around the world trim and fit. The standard American processed and refined food diet has way too much added fat, salt, sugar and animal protein (and, bad cholesterol) in it.

Those who live longest tend to eat similarly. They consume fewer calories and higher fiber. You might want to try it out to see if it works for you, too. Find your healthiest foods you like, then repeat eating them.

You don’t need to make eating a fancy, complicated, big deal. I eat simply. I know eating plant based whole food continues to keep me well. Only time will tell if I live to 100 and beyond.
