Ultimate Food for Health and Weight Loss: Plant Based or Dash Diet? Facts I Found Out…

What’s more important? Is it how our food tastes or good health and weight loss? Why not all the above? People see everything differently and place their own importance on what they want out of life. I can only talk about my viewpoint. So, what matters most to me since I am the writer for this website?

‘In my opinion, if you eat ‘right’ at least 80 percent of the time, you should be able to get healthier and lose weight down to your natural weight and maintain it automatically from food you eat… But, how do we define what ‘eating right’ actually is’? I think I have that answer based upon my experience…~ your author

First of all, how do we define what a ‘plant based’ and ‘Dash diet’ is? Here’s my take… A plant based whole food diet is…

‘A well-balanced, plant-based diet is composed of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, herbs, spices, and a small amount of nuts and seeds [1 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4991921/]’.

And, finally, what is the ‘Dash diet’?…

‘DASH is a flexible and balanced eating plan that helps create a heart-healthy eating style for life [2 nhlbi.nih.gov/health-topics/dash-eating-plan]’.

The DASH eating plan requires no special foods and instead provides daily and weekly nutritional goals. This plan recommends:

  • Eating vegetables, fruits, and whole grains

  • Including fat-free or low-fat dairy products, fish, poultry, beans, nuts, and vegetable oils

  • Limiting foods that are high in saturated fat, such as fatty meats, full-fat dairy products, and tropical oils such as coconut, palm kernel, and palm oils

  • Limiting sugar-sweetened beverages and sweets

You might be wondering which diet plan and why I chose it for myself? I have definite ideas about diet, weight loss and health which if you’ve already read some of my posts, you will recognize.

Based upon my own trial and error, my personal choice is a plant based whole food diet. Why did I choose it? Here are my reasons…

  • It is devoid of all animal products like meat, dairy, eggs and fish, etc.
  • Very low in fat
  • Has no refined products like oils, sugar and grain
  • No junk and snack foods
  • I call myself a plant based whole foodist, not a vegetarian or vegan

  1. I like your blogs. I follow your suggestions.
Here in Newfoundland, obesity is an epidemic, as is Diabetes.
Rural Newfoundlanders eat their meals very quickly. I sometimes wonder if people who eat really quickly end up by becoming more overweight. 🤗

    1. Very much appreciated! My wife tells me to slow down eating all the time! I think what helped me lose fifty pounds, lower my blood pressure and improve my health in general was eating more whole fruits and vegetables. You know nothing has been added to them, unlike processed and refined foods. So, my particular diet is ‘naturally’ low in fat, sodium, high in fiber and with the right carbs. Obesity and diabetes are both a big problem here in the states, too. One is best advised to see his doctor before he changes his diet. I was my own guinea pig through trial and error. I think I came out OK though. My weight seems to be automatically maintained because of the food I eat everyday. Here’s where I reveal what I eat… So far, it appears to have brought me good results…

      1. Thanks, Steven ! Our beloved physician and friend, agrees with you. He made us a delicious vegetable casserole and brought it over to us. Now that’s good medical care ! Thanks for helping us all get healthier. 🤗
