I have always loved eating salty snacks and junk food like corn and potato chips. Nothing went down better than a salty pretzel and bottle of beer. But, I don’t do that anymore. That was in the day I was young. Now, my body has changed and I can’t abuse it without severe consequences! My body demands respect and good treatment…
So, lately, I have been having a few extra aches and pains. Come to find out it was something obvious. I was having too much salt on my food. I was abusing my salt shaker.
We were also eating too many nuts. Hard to find them at your regular store unsalted. But, we order our food and have it delivered these days because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

I would salt my potatoes in the morning and later on in the afternoon and evening I would eat macadamia nuts, mixed nuts and pistachios. I also was eating too many black and green olives. Amazing how quickly a can of them disappears!
I didn’t add all the sodium content up, but noticed I was wrinkled on my arms and just about everywhere else. Most guys don’t care about this, but women do. But, I felt so lousy and didn’t figure out the problem until the other day.

I know to limit sodium, but that’s intellectual. In the doing way, the real way, it’s different. Now, I am monitoring it consciously. It’s so easy to let things get out of hand and sleep while you eat on automatic pilot. My wife loves the sweet stuff, but I prefer salty. She never gets cavities, I would. So, at least for me, sugary stuff is my taboo.

I eat recommended amounts of foods from USDA choose my plate. The recommended sodium intake amounts to 2400mg a day. That’s only about 1 teaspoon of salt. I am sure I went way over. But, 1500mg a day for me and my wife would be ideal.

Unless you calculate sodium in all the refined and processed foods you eat, you are guaranteed to always exceed your daily maximum limit. Most Americans do. I always eat before I go to the grocery store. It helps.
