Asparagus Cooking Tip For The Non-Gourmet

Instead of steaming asparagus, you can microwave it in a bowl for 2-1/2 minutes. Your microwave time may vary. Add a little water and put a cover on top. I use a paper plate. It cooks up nice and soft. I eat it with a microwaved sliced russet potato. Really good with salt and pepper.

‘I buy a pound of it and eat it by myself because my wife doesn’t like it. I eat it once a week like I do brussels sprouts’

I used to make a big occasion out of it and drizzle olive oil, cracked pepper and garlic salt cooking it at 400 degrees in the oven for about 20 minutes. It tended to get too dry and crunchy that way.

‘Asparagus officinalis is a vegetable that is widely consumed worldwide and has also long been used as a herbal medicine for the treatment of several diseases [1]’.

I like quicker and easy. I’m not very picky and I predominately eat simply. I just want to eat ASAP. My wife prefers broccoli. I believe asparagus has unique health benefits.

‘You can tell when you chew asparagus it has lots of fiber’

As with other vegetables it has important vitamins and minerals. I don’t even worry about what they are. But, asparagus is good for digestion, urinary tract, has antioxidants which protect our cells, may lower blood pressure and has vitamins like C, A, K, folate, E and minerals like potassium and phosphorous.
